PROJECT: Saffron Mixed Media Frameset
BUILDER: Saffron Frameworks
FINISH:  So this one is for a particularly well-loved client of ours, Julian… this is the third finish we’ve undertaken for him. The other two being the Enigma Masterpiece and the Autumnal Saffron. As you’ll see from those other projects, Julian is no stranger to a unique finish and is always keen to give us creative freedom on his projects.

This frameset however is a little different… in fact, its a LOT different as you can see from the photos!

Matthew and the team at Saffron Frameworks created a bicycle made of steel, carbon and wood. This is a feat in itself.

Aiming to be respectful of the engineering skills and craftsmanship involved, this is a finish that didn’t need to be embellished. With this in mind, our efforts, whilst crips, clean and direct, were minimal and unfussy throughout.

We were agreed that each of the materials, the steel, carbon and wood, should be clearly evident and not hidden away. the final result saw us land on what you can see in the images… a custom-blend titanium metallic silver body with graphics in Canna di Fucile. The carbon ISP and the fork have been given a flat black and a matte clearcoat in order to pair the two varied factory finishes, the wood has been left untouched and then given an oil-based finish afterwards. As always, any good gloss finish has been given a coat of SPI Universal clear.
