PROJECT: 3T Strada for Jonny Noble
BUILDER: 3T Cycles
FINISH: Jonny Noble is a top wheelbuilder and mechanic. He specialises in high-end custom builds and he is a good friend of us here at CCW. He got his hands on an RTP 3T Strada frameset and said we could do what we wanted with it so we tackled this one under the rules of our ‘House Special’… the plan is now to offer this design scheme in any colourway, exclusively to Noble Wheels customers.
We’ve seen versions of high-end bikes with dozens of logos covering them and for this finish we didn’t want the bike to be a walking billboard so we decided to play with the branding a little. If you flick through the gallery above, you’ll see a .GIF animation that demonstrates how the bike’s colour blocks are created through overlapping, oversized iterations of the 3T branding… we probably couldn’t have made the logo any bigger if we’d tried!
The colour choices for this frameset were made in order to present classic camouflage tones in solids and metallics to create different dynamic colour pairings throughout.
The visible 3T graphics were again somewhere we chose to have a little fun… the headtube hosts a solid logo in gold; the fork lades use the same gold but this time in a fineline outline and the downtube branding features the 3T branding in the gold solid, flanked by a staggered shadow effect… (a feature we carried over to the back of the aero seat tube with Jonny’s own logo), the very same downtube graphic has been reversed on the non-driveside of the frame to reflect symmetry.
The layers of product were finally given an additional flow coat of SPI clear and buffed to a high gloss.
That wasn’t enough for Jonny so he decided to go one further and brand his custom-built rims and hubs in the same colours.
We should also mention and thank Adam from Cycle EXIF who visited us to take some shots and was kind enough to pop over to Jonny’s workshop and photograph the bike for us.
